Sadly, another classmate of ours, Bruce Hoag, has passed away.  He passed away 2 weeks ago, 3 days after suffering a stroke.  We've known each other since kindergarten, although we haven't seen each other for years. Bruce went to Golf School along with me, my twin brother - John Arpan, Lee Miller, Judy Kerstetter, Kathy Wilke, Mike Head, Dave Merrill, Janis Kliphardt, David Bantz, Pat Bateman, and too many others for me to remember.   Our bus stop was at the end of his driveway.  When we were kids Bruce and I used to go hunting for night crawlers together. Funny, what memories come to mind.  He was a nice fellow. Rest In Peace, Bruce.

RIDE BACK is a tern originating in Western cowboy culture; it refers to the custom of riding back to pick up a partner who has fallen off their horse.  RIDE BACK denotes commitment; loyalty; support.

Rideback is a community in service of creativity.  Rideback produces premium film and television content for global audiences.  As a production company, Rideback supports and empowers visionary storytellers who share their passion for entertaining audiences in delightfully surprising ways.  Rideback's focus on originality and excellence unites the creative ambitions of writers and directors with the financial interests of studios, streaming platforms, networks, and brands.  They seek out courageous partners interested in telling fresh, compelling stories and lead them toward a common goal: groundbreaking content that draws in their audience.

A wise old owl lived in an oak,

The more he saw the less he spoke,

The less he spoke the more he heard.

Why can't we all be like that wise old bird?

Take the dogs to the dogs forum.

Stewart,

The black dog is Max.  He eagerly likes me to read the Message Forum to him.  He's far more handsome than me.

Alan, you show a bubble wrap head? for your picture.  Isn't it at least equal to my picture of Max?  Poodles are very, I mean VERY smart dogs and thinks you should put it on an Arts and Crafts Forum.  He likes that kind of stuff.

Janis, no offense intended.  Just wanted to keep us from drifting in the old direction that becomes so hurtful to some Message Forum readers.  I hope more classmates will test the waters so to speak, and put a post for us to read.

Sage advice to open 2020!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

"Steve Jobs was the co-founder, Chairman and CEO of Apple Corporation and died in 2011, aged 56, after losing his battle with Pancreatic Cancer. He posted the following observation just prior to his death.

"Very profound and a realization that only became obvious when he was confronted with his certain demise.

"The World's six best doctors ... worth reading------ Steve Jobs Died a billionaire ( $10.2b ) at age 56. This is his final essay:

“I reached the pinnacle of success in the business world. In some others' eyes, my life is the epitome of success. However, aside from work, I have little joy. In the end, my wealth is only a fact of life that I am accustomed to. At this moment, lying on my bed and recalling my life, I realize that all the recognition and wealth that I took so much pride in have paled and become meaningless in the face of my death.
You can employ someone to drive the car for you or make money for you but you cannot have someone bear your sickness for you. Material things lost can be found or replaced. But there is one thing that can never be found when it's lost - Life. Whichever stage in life you are in right now, with time, you will face the day when the curtain comes down.
"Treasure love for your family, love for your spouse, love for your friends. Treat yourself well and cherish others. As we grow older, and hopefully wiser, we realize that a $300 or a $30 watch both tell the same time. You will realize that your true inner happiness does not come from the material things of this world. Whether you fly first class or economy, if the plane goes down - you go down with it.
Therefore, I hope you realize, when you have mates, buddies, and old friends, brothers and sisters, who you chat with, laugh with, talk with, have sing songs with, talk about north-south-east-west or heaven and earth, that is true happiness! Don't educate your children to be rich. Educate them to be happy. So when they grow up they will know the value of things and not the price. Eat your food as your medicine, otherwise you have to eat medicine as your food.
"There is a big difference between a human being and being human. Only a few really understand it. You are loved when you are born. You will be loved when you die. In between, you have to manage!
The six best doctors in the world are sunlight, rest, exercise, diet, self-confidence and friends. Maintain them in all stages and enjoy a healthy life."

Walking from here to there...

Does your dishwasher clean your dishes? after how many cycles?

01/15/20 04:35 PM #1558

Beverlee Ann Arpan (Marshall)

Janis...Huh?

One cycle.  Actually, I wash the dishes in the sink first, then wash them in the dishwasher to sanitize them.

C'mon kids, let's play nice!

Or do some of you consider that "tsk, tsking"?  :-)

btw, I'm enjoying the new, nicer format.

Paul, I really appreciated the words that you quoted from Steve Jobs.  It should make everyone stop & think about what's really important to themselves & their loved ones.  I remember in 2018, or possibly 2017, seeing that "Forbes" magazine had named Bill Gates the wealthiest man in the world, with a net worth of $80 billion.  After hearing that, I couldn't shake the thought that, even for Bill Gates, even for the wealthiest man in the entire world, there was something in his life that pissed him off every single day -  something that was totally out of his control.  I didn't know if it was one of his kids, or Melinda, or something else - I was just pretty sure that thing is out there, unbeknownst to any of us.  But, Bill Gates is still going strong  (as far as I know) & we have all out-survived Steve Jobs.

Thank you again Broadmoor.  Had a lovely visit.  Look forward to our next time.

Bev, we envy you your trip to the Broadmoor.  It's one of our favorite spots.  'Course, we've only been there in the summer and fall, for golf; imagine it's spectacular in the winter.  The Spa at the Broadmoor is one of my wife's favorites.  Generally, we don't like buffets--neither of us eats enough to make them worthwhile.  Our exception, though, is the Sunday brunch at the Broadmoor.  It's an experience everyone should be able to enjoy sometime.

I am profoundly troubled that out of our tradition for living and growing with open and inquisitive minds, we have arrived at enforced censorship on our Forum.  We are too comfortable / complacent.

"The greatest thing (we) can do (for ourselves and for our young) is keep (our) minds young.
"Anyone who stops learning is old, whether twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young."
-- Mark Twain

I shudder to think what we are revealing about our sense of decency.

Marcie and Max are better looking than a picture of me, so here is our other Standard Poodle on the cushiest place she is not allowed.  Enjoy this one for a while.  She is 13 years old and is slowing down.  But, she springs into action as the best alarm system when someone or something approaches the house.  Poodles are good watchdogs.  They will bark to chase people away, but they are not biters.  Their disposition is very gentle.

A young UPS driver thought he could win her over with a dog treat.  He stashed a box of Milkbones in the cargo area.  One day he came up the drivway with a treat in hand.  Marcie ran right past him, jumped in the truck and found the cache.  On another occasion, she ran down the street, jumped in his parked truck and sat on the driver's seat until he came back and gave her a treat.  We don't let her loose very often anymore!

Dog stories are better than politics.

Hey, Janis and Carol:

Since you mentioned me by name I'll do the same

Which I've tried not to do in the past.

I don't think I complain, just try to explain

By holding up a mirror so folks can see themselves

As others see them

And dogs, I like them

But they are relatively high-maintenence

Compared to cats, of course

And now, off to enjoy a snow day

Ahhh...the gift of time!

Keep warm, y'all, and PEACE

Make love, not war

Hey Ron, do something then --

with the gift of time on a snow day,

build a snowman and post a photo.

Show us how a wise old bird

makes love, not war.

What is the Broadmoor?? It doesn't Google...at least not in Illinois.

Try Colorado Springs, Colorado when googling the Broadmoor.
