       For sure in modern history,
we are the first to call ourselves citizens

                                  (not subjects).

Calling ourselves citizens was a remarkable achievement in 1776.
Today we continue to struggle and stumble toward our ideal -
a nation that is "of the people, for the people, and by the people."

Trump found guilty on all 34 felony counts.

(Trump chose not to take the stand.)

In tribute to Marian Shields Robinson, to Chicago, and to a grandmother's love.
It was Malia and Sasha's well-being that led Marian Robinson to decide to move into the White House: Malia was ten years old, Sasha was seven. Marian wanted to do what she could to ensure that her granddaughters were able to maintain some semblance of a normal life. She accompanied the girls who were driven to and from school in a motorcade with armed guards. Marian's presence made the trip feel more like a carpool.

By all the means you can,

In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can."

The question is no longer about his character.

The question now is whether character matters to us.

Should we laugh or cry when Republicans say they're the party of 'law and order'?

Oradour-sur-Glane in south-central France was the site of a brutal atrocity during WWII. The entire rural village was destroyed and its inhabitants massacred by German troops on June 10,1944.

The ruins of the gutted, abandoned village serve as a memorial to the 642 lives lost there that day 80 years ago.

French civilians paid a heavy price for the triumph of D-Day. Oradour is one of many French villages where residents were rounded up and executed; 60,000 French citizens were killed by the bombings and by German soldiers evacuating France. Only recently have we paid attention to the sacrifice borne by the French following the beach landings. Yet the resurgence of the extreme right in the 1980s persuaded the survivors that dear as the price had been the Nazis had to be stopped. The extreme right is rearing its ugly head again.

Europeans wish their economies were as strong as ours is.
Americans seem oblivious to the fact the entire world has been suffering inflation since the pandemic and the U.S. has made the strongest recovery.

Adam Kinzinger endorsed Joe Biden for President.
He has the courage to put country over party.

The debate was painful to watch.
     Elections are about the future.
Our future as a country is at stake.

Why did Republicans pass on the need to replace Trump as their candidate?

There is no more important office in the world.
Will either party put country first?

No one deserves to be president.
Our presumptive nominees are demonstrating a lack of respect for the office.

Our youth will carry us into the future.
George Washington possessed the wisdom to know the presidency is not meant to be a lifetime appointment.

I am not panicking. I have seven grandchildren, four of them in their twenties; two daughters and two sons-in-law in their fifties.
I have great respect and gratitude to Joe Biden for his service to our country.
When do we pass the torch?
