Janis, I don't think it's all about discernment.  Two people witnessing the same event will typically recount different observations.  Does that mean one or both are lying?  Not at all.  We weigh what was said and decide, or as you say, discern which account sounds truthful.  I was paraphrasing David,s caution 3500 years ago, "Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help." Ps 146:4.  We must listen with skepticism of David and decide what we believe.  Isn't that discernment?

Skepticism is important when we're discerning shades of gray.
In the instance of FOX News we're talking black and white. FOX News employees and Rupert Murdoch have acknowledged that they lied.

I'm not defending them nor do I want to put you on the spot. What lies are you referring to?

Truth matters.
Lies have consequences.
An endorsement of facts and truthful reporting.
The 1st Amendment has restraints.
FOX released a statement that appears to be as much acknowledgment as they'll make publicly that they were caught airing lies to their viewers about the 2020 presidential election.
The financial agreement between Dominion and FOX is an agreement and cannot be appealed.
This is just the beginning, FOX faces more defamation suits.

It is depressing that Trump - one of the most loathsome individuals ever - retains the loyalty of a significant number of Americans.

What happens in Florida matters.
DeSantis' ultimate goal is to "Make America Florida."

Both Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis tell us they will pursue pardons for those convicted of a crime for their role in the January 6 siege of the Capitol.
Who can forget and/or excuse what we saw in real time on January 6 and all that the January 6 Commission has revealed since?

"See the Super Patriot. Hear him preach how he loves his country. Hear him preach how he hates liberals and moderates and intellectuals, activists and pacifists, and minority groups and aliens and unions and teenagers, and the very rich and the very poor and the people with foreign sounding names. Now you know what a super patriot is. He's someone who loves his country and hates 93% of the people who live in it."

In MAGA world, there seems to be a mad dash to the bottom of a cesspool.
There's plenty competition, but Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene is doing her darndest to get there first.

Isaac Asimov once said: "When stupidity is considered patriotism, it is unsafe to be intelligent."

The most anti-woke state in America still can't figure out how to honorably teach kids the truth about our nation's history.
Doesn't DeSantis have better things to do than ban books, mock the military for being woke, or tweak history?

His poll numbers are dropping like a stone.

Think of it: If Trump is convicted, he can nevertheless be on the ballot as a presidential candidate in the state of Florida where he would be denied the right to vote for himself.

"Republican presidential primary candidates who can't confront Trump should get out of the race and endorse him."  -- former IL Rep Adam Kinzinger

Republican presidential candidates defend Trump at their own risk; they are implicitly minimizing his scheme to overturn the voters' will.
Though execution of the scheme was messy, it was a serious plot to keep Trump in office.
Trump and his squad continue to disregard truth and undermine the law.

Trump keeps saying he's being persecuted; in reality he's getting a taste of accountability albeit with special treatment.
As always, he's out swinging.
His assertion that he's being indicted for his followers is a lie.
Trump wants no part of martyrdom; he is a criminal defendant recruiting human shields to protect him from legal jeopardy.

Imagine this: the same Republican presidential candidates who acknowledged VP Pence did the right thing to uphold the Constitution on January 6, 2021, also raised their hands to affirm they would support Trump in the general election should Trump win the GOP nomination and also be convicted of crimes.

Pigpen is a lovable Peanuts character known for the cloud of dirt and dust that follows him wherever he goes.
Think about it: Trump is a weird variation on Pigpen. He has a long history filled with clouds of dirt and dust he has not outgrown. Instead he chooses to monetize it, manufacture it, immerse himself and double-down on it, throw it around and then blame others for it.
Over and over Trump shows us who he is. Why don't we believe him? (Maya Angelou)

There are those who yearn for Trump's return to power.
May we somehow rescue them from this desire and save our country from his promised retribution.

Special thanks to the January 6 Committee, to the Capitol police, to Cassidy Hutchinson, to Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, to Brad Raffensperger and Rusty Bowers, to Geoff Duncan, to Governors Chris Sununu and John Kasich, and finally, better late than never, Republicans who want to be president: Chris Christie, Asa Hutchinson, and Will Hurd who are speaking out in opposition to Trump.
