There oughta be a law Posted Saturday, September 4, 2021 03:59 PM A rabbi writes that Judaism teaches that potential life is sacred. Nevertheless, Judaism teaches that potential life is not the same as actual life, that a fetus is not a human being. Judaism is neither pro-life nor pro-choice. The decision to abort a fetus depends on the life of the mother and that determines the choice. SCOTUS allowed Texas law SB 8 to stand. The new Texas law, SB 8, is a restriction on the practice of Judaism. And it would likewise impose a religious standard upon anyone from any religion who believes abortion is not always the evil Texas legislators believe it to be. SB 8 cannot stand forever. The first amendment protects freedom of religion. The National Council of Jewish Women's Rabbis for Repro campaign actively supports reproductive justice in the Jewish community and in the United States. Jews have suffered before for the right to practice their religion. Can the white evangelical church honestly continue to claim being pro-life is about protecting life? Texas bill SB 8 makes it clear these laws are about control. |

RE: There oughta be a law Posted Tuesday, September 7, 2021 09:45 PM TX Gov Greg Abbott reminds us "Rape is a crime." He defends Texas' no-exceptions abortion law because he says he's going to eliminate all rapists from the streets of Texas (which will eliminate victims seeking abortions in Texas). |

RE: There oughta be a law Posted Friday, September 10, 2021 02:00 PM P.S. Texas ranks 50th in baby wellness checks, clinical care for children, and uninsured women. It ranks 43rd in maternal mortality, 44th in school funding per child, and 46th in child hunger. It also leads the nation in reported cases of rape. See any gaps in Texas' understanding of pro-life? |
