   The world mourns Pope Francis;
   he died this morning on Easter Monday.
   Franciscus loved people.
   May his memory be a blessing.

  The world has a new pope:
          Pope Leo XIV
  an American Augustinian,
  born in Chicago,
  a Cubs fan - "No!" say some,
  "he's from the South Side."
  Villanova 1977, degree in Math
  dual U.S. - Peruvian citizenship

  These days he watches football (soccer).

   In his inaugural homily, Pope Leo XIV
   underscored the ecumenical unity of
   the Church.

  stand up, it spreads.

The Ukraine National Baseball team is in America grateful to Americans for the opportunity to represent Ukraine and to play ball amidst the war.

    Have you seen the best catch ever?

        Take a look at Denzel Clarke,
             Athletics' center fielder.

I found David Merrill's "In Memory" tribute to his friend Robey Swartz a worthy read.

  great photo in front of Trevi Fountain!

    note for tourists:

    One coin thrown with your right hand
    over your left shoulder into the fountain
    insures you will return to Roma.

I wanted to let you know that Bonnie Batschauer (DeZur) died on June 20th in Texas.  She had moved there some years ago after her husband died.  Bonnie was a lot of fun in high school.  She was a natural blonde, and about 6' tall.  I will miss her.

   All-Stars play tonight.
  Automated balls & strikes will be called.
  ***Correction:
  Teams were allowed to challenge
   two calls during the game;
   the computer decided those
   limited challenges.

Edward Hirsch recently published a book about growing up in Chicago and Skokie.It's an oddly written memoir that covers his life from birth through his high school graudation.  He attended Fairview School and Niles West a few years after we did, and he names names: teachers, coaches for high school football, basketball and baseball, restaurants, streets, stores and more. I found the last half more interesting because I enjoyed his high school memories in particular. It's called "My Childhood in Pieces, A Skokie Elegy.".
