The Katrina twins survived to thrive because of and with deep gratitude to Lt General Russel Honore' - their mom had waded through murky water with one 6 and 1/2 month old strapped to her chest, the other on her back 'til they heard his voice and received his care to get to immediate life-saving medical attention.

Today is my first day following Mohs surgery and skin graft.
If you can believe, I found by touch - inside my right ear - what biopsy showed to be basal cell carcinoma.

Lesson: apply sunscreen inside your ears.

In the meantime, tomorrow (48 hours after surgery), I will remove the surgical dressings:
the one that covers my right ear
and the second from the back of my neck where the surgeon cut skin for the graft
and then
begin wound care for both areas.

I am truly fortunate that it was not necessary to proceed with Mohs surgery into my ear canal.

I'm glad you are holding up so well after Mohs.  Your cheerful comments are so welcome.  Paul

    Thanks, Paul.

I am grateful to hear ☔️ falling,
    no cicadas this far north.
My skin graft should be healed
    in time for our  60th.

D-Day, eighty years ago, General Eisenhower, Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces, said "Go" and his forces stormed the beaches of France to attack the German forces and turn the tide of WWII to defeat the Nazis.

  We're a baker's dozen,
                  the hills are alive.
Lilacs are in bloom in the Green Mountains.
  It's beautiful as ever,
Beware! bear cubs think so too.

It's sophomore summer at Dartmouth and my granddaughter is there. Dartmouth students are required to take three terms of PE - it's summer term, why not take kayak rolling? The instructor did not show up for class on Monday at 5 pm - it was raining. My granddaughter and a friend jumped into the Connecticut River, then walked back to campus in the rain. What fun to be young and Woebegone strong!

As an invitation of sorts we watched paper lanterns (a'la Steve Hirschtick) soar in the sky over Sister Bay in Door County, Wisconsin.
Now we see dueling fireworks -
over Sister Bay
and across Green Bay in Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Happy 4th of July!

P.S. The fireworks were muted
        AND spectacular to see:
        my right ear lavishly filled
        with Vaseline,
        covered with a surgical pad
        and paper tape
        to keep the Vaseline
        inside my ear
        and prevent disturbance
of any kind to my skin graft.
        Tonight impaired hearing,
        significant though temporary,
        is thankfully a blessing.

P.P.S. Just thinking: paper lanterns are beautiful
          AND make no sound.

Best wishes to my Class of '64 classmates! Because of a schedule conflict, I will not be attending the 60th reunion (despite the tempting lure of Hackney's onion strings). I've made a donation via Scott Mermel to help support this website and encourage classmates to do the same.

I have a scheduling conflict, and may be unable to attend the reunion on Saturday night.
Are there any events
scheduled for Friday evening?

Wishing the best to all who atttend on Saturday

LeBron James barely saved Team USA from a stunning upset to defeat South Sudan in a pre-Olympic basketball game.  101-100

Janis Kliphardt (Emery)

In 1958-59 I lived in Khartoum, Sudan; our family visited what is now South Sudan for the month of December 1958.

Yesterday (televised today) LeBron James and the American Olympic basketball team again faced South Sudan's Bright Stars in a rematch on the Olympic basketball court.
(Sunday South Sudan earned their first-ever Olympic men's basketball victory when they defeated Puerto Rico 90-79.)

Team USA defeated South Sudan 103-86.

I watched the game with three grandsons - they were all cheering for Team USA. They understood my split loyalty and shared my awe for the Bright Stars.
Today in 2024, half of South Sudan's population is 18 years and younger.

The Bright Stars were in the game, but they fell short of the performance they wanted:
Though Team USA held a fluctuating lead throughout the game, it was clear, South Sudan's opponent could not relax and expect to win.

FIVE WEEKS TO GO!

OK, everyone!  Time passes quickly and we are now only 5 weeks from our (if you can believe it!) 60th Reunion!!!!  Those of us doing the planning really need to know who is coming so we can work with Hackney's to make sure we have ample space and enough of their wonderful menu.  Wouldn't want a fight to break out over the last slider!  So... if you are going to join us on Saturday, September 7th, please a take a minute now to register (click here).  That will so help us in planning.

We have about 30 classmates and guest registered as of today.  We'd like to see more. Hope to see many of you again in a few weeks.

Your 60th Reunion Committee

We will be staying downtown (Congress Plaza Hotel) the week of our reunion.
Anyone else staying nearby (or passing nearby on the way to Glenview) who might want to share a ride?
Or meet up earlier in the week?

Howdy Y'all,

Wow!! Please FaceTime me during the fun 775-230-0092.
1964 reunion
In case you're going...  I wish I could, but circumstances have conspired against it.please, if you have an iPhone, call me! Facetime Please!

That settles it! Just as I was attempting to sign up for our class reunion, I broke my foot! Unable to drive or walk, I still thought I could figure out a way. Then the falling began. Maybe it was the ugly, clunky, bulky, black foot boot (Did I mention UGLY?) I have to wear or perhaps just lack of awareness, but at least I haven’t broken any more bones. Still, there’s no more room on my skin for bandaids and bruises. So, I’ve got an iPhone. I can easily call someone there during the festivities and enjoy a virtual attendance.  Please pass the word. Remind me of the date and hours. My number is:
775-230-0092.    FACETIME PLEASE
Have fun y’all! (That's my attempt to fit in here and become an honorary Texan)

Hi all, I'm looking very forward to seeing everyone at the Reunion!  Unfortunately, I'll be a little late.  I'm attending a Retirement Party of a friend who had the nerve to schedule her party at the same time as our Reunion.  I'll see you about 6:30 and hope everyone will still be there!  ta ta for now
