Bob Rivenberg was a very cute senior boy at West.  He was the guy who had many friends both girls and boys.  If you were having a party, Bob would be the first on the list.  Bob wasn't the best student and we wasn't the worst.  He did what he could when he wasn't looking for fun. Lets say Bob was a good friend, good athlete, and was shy when it came to dating.

one night senior year Bob and several friends went to the Dairy Queen in Lincolnwood.  There were several seniors there, just hanging out. There were no drugs or liquor, just I cream, burgers, and soda. Due to the boredom and lack of fun Bob and a few of the boys decided to race up the electrical poles.  Bob won but lost.  He was the first one to reach the top and put his hand on the live wire.  Bob Wooley, a Lincolnwood boy was working that night, and could answer more questions then me. I got there to late.

A few days later, several hundred  Niles West seniors, were crying over Bobs casket.  This was the first funeral of a friend all of us attended. It was a very sad day that stayed with me for years, much worst then John Kennedy.  Bob was the go to person. Bob died before he found true love,  went the his prom, or had his photo in our senior year book. Bob never said goodbye to his parents, friends, or his belongings. He never said goodbye to me.

when Sharon Rodnick and Ronnie Miller married in 1966, they made a decision to name their first born child after Bob. A year later Roberta Miller was born. Sharon being a major part of my adult life, I saw  Roberta grow up.  When ever I see Roberta, my memory of Bob is still with me and that night at Dairy Queen.

Bob, you died to young, but you stayed in the hearts of many of us girls. We never had the chance to kiss and hug you, and say rest in peace.  I miss you so much.

To echo Carol, "While it's sad to remember (Bob Rivenburgh's tragic) death, it's wonderful to remember (him)".  I also remember visiting his parents following Bob's death.  Often, not 'til we're parents, do we fully appreciate how fragile life is.  How wonderful to see Bob's picture by his name in the memorial video.  The special effort is appreciated.

Bob Rivenburgh's obituary is dated September 10, 1964. He didn't make much out of high school. I didn't know him, but I feel the loss all these years later just the same.

I used to play hockey with Bob, Terry Bramwell, Bob Kitsos, and others at Terminal Park .  Bob was a great guy and I was stunned when I found out he had died. His life was way too short....and that a real shame!
