Ron was the definition of tall, dark and handsome. We also went to Golf School together. Back in the day, we went to school dances, when there were such a thing, and now when I hear 'Mr. Blue' on an oldies, but goodies channel I think fondly of Ron, because that was the song he and I always danced to. After high school I'd come home from NIU on weekends and my mom, my brother and I would go out for dinner on Fridays to our favorite restaurant, Big Boys, in Niles, where Ron was the head cook. We made it a point to sit at the counter to face the cooking area to wave and smile at him. He'd always wave back, and smile that shy, sweet smile and our meals tasted that much better. I lost track of Ron after that, but my memories of him are dear. Sweet dreams, Ron.

Hello:

I too was a friend of Ron. He passed away about 2 years ago from cancer. I was friends with his in-laws. He was married to Diane Carter of Niles East '64 who passed away in Nov. '98 at 52 years old.

Incidentially his older brother Jerry is married to Niles West Alum Sharon Williamson.

In 1964 I am pretty sure that Diane, went by Diana Carter and that she had childhood diabetes. Her mother was a relative, I think a distant cousin of my mother, but I remember seeing her when her family came to the Meirhoffer, another relative, family picnics. Do you remember the Meirhoffer  buses that took us to and from high school.

That is really unfortunate to hear especially since I have moved away and only talk to my brother Bob. I hope the Carters are weathering this really unforltunate loss.

I don't remember what grade Ron entered Golf School, but we girls were smitten.  Bev's right, she always got to dance with Ron to "Mr. Blue" and we watched with envy.
