Jim and I lived on Davis St.  in Skokie and played together as kids.  Play for boys was sand lot baseball, climbing trees and wrestling.  We would wrestle until we got mad at each other.  Then not hang out for about a week and then start the same play process over again.  Jim was really strong.  I was probably a little quicker, so we were a good match.  Growing up without a care in the world, all the kids on our block had fun.  It was a great childhood.

I saw Jim's death notice several years ago as he lived in a neighboring town (McHenry, IL).  We had not seen each other since the 20th Reunion.

I lived on Arcadia, a block from Jim. I remember him as a nice guy. I saw him again at the tenth. I'm sorry to hear of his passing.

Jim was one of the "cute" boys from the next block who, along with Paul Hain, Richard Weeks and Bill Rosenquist, would come over and play with Marianna Westphal, me, and the rest of the kids on Arcadia Street. In the summers we rode our bikes in loops around Arcadia, Davis, Laramie, Lockwood and adjacent streets. In the winters we built snow forts and had snowball fights -- with the boys always winning. The big empty lot between Arcadia and Church Streets was the place you could always find kids from the neighborhood playing baseball, tag or some other activity.  We rode the bus together to Sharp Corner School for kindergarten, first and second grades. Then walked together to the brand new Jane Stenson School for third through sixth. The neighboorhood kids stayed pretty close until we reached junior high and high school when new friends and changing interests sent us our separate ways.

I chatted with Jim at the 30th reunion and will post the photo of the Sharp Corner alumni group taken that evening. Unless my memory has totally failed me, Jim was the distinguished-looking man with the beard in the back row. So sorry that we will miss having the opportunity to talk with him again at the 50th.

Peace be with Jim.

Can anyone else post photos from our Jane Stenson and Sharp Corner years? Jim's photo will be in them.

Thanks, Kathy, for your plan to post at least one photo.  I will be checking with Richard Zaitlin about the attendance list for his reunion party this Saturday in the Los Angeles area.  I will be attending.

Love to all,

David Steinberg Noel, currently from the Sacramento, CA, area.

Kathy, you refreshed some memories about playing as kids.  Mariana, you, Bill (yet to be found) Rosenquist, Jim and the others riding our bikes in complete safety on Arcadia, Davis, Lockwood or playing in the snow until we ran out of dry mittens and snow suits.  Definitely good childhood times.  Jim is the bearded man in the last row of the picture.  Your post was very enjoyable.

Jim was a cool guy.  I remember him working at McDonald's....on Dempster.  He worked the night shift.  A number of us were into hot rodding at the time.....Jim's brother had a red Chevy with the name Cherry Bomb on the side.  Anyway we would be in the parking lot at closing time and he got to give away all the food that was cooked and not purchased.  It was sweet....teenagers and free food.  He was always a very nice young man.
